Fun Treats ~ Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

Posted on

When it comes to celebrating Birthdays at school, it seems there are lots of rules about what you can and can’t bring….Lucky for us we can still make homemade treats but we have to make sure it is peanut free. Birthday Treats can be tricky but Thankfully my daughter loves Marshmallows and Popcorn which are both peanut free items! So I searched online for something fun that had the two ingredients she wanted, as I didn’t want to just make it a trail mix with popcorn and marshmallows, and we found a winner! I got the recipe from Annie’s Eats and the picture sold us! 20150106_122644

Of course she wanted pink so I went to the store and bought Strawberry Marshmallows! I did modify the recipie slightly from the original. After popping the 1/2 cup of popcorn I realized that I was going to need to make 2 batches to feed the 32 kids! You guessed it I only purchased one bag of pink marshmallows but Thankfully I realized this before I started the first batch of Marshmallows, so I was able to use half a bag of regular Marshmallows mixed with half bag of the Strawberry and problem solved, no second trip to the store!

I found cooking spray really helped keep the sticky mess to a low when forming the balls. Also it didn’t take long for the Popcorn/Marshmallow mixture to cool so you need to work quickly forming the balls. I choose to make them about the size of tennis balls which each batch gave me roughly 18 balls. This really was a quick and easy recipe from start to finish with my 4 year old helping(sometimes creating more mess like the 8-10 sticks that we lost to the floor) I finished both batches in under and hour and that includes cleaning the dishes between and after the last batch.

These Treats got the Thumbs up from my kids and the School kids!

Marshmallow Popcorn Balls
(adapted from Annie’s Eats Blog)

1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
1/4 cup butter
10oz bag of Marshmallows (any flavor/color)
1 tsp. Vanilla flavoring
Cooking Spray
Wax Paper

Pop the Popcorn and set aside in a big bowl. Melt Butter in large sauce pan then add marshmallows and melt, add vanilla and stir removing from heat. Pour melted Marshmallows over the popcorn and gently with wooden spoon mix until coated. Form into Balls and insert stick. If making Tennis sized this recipe yields 16-20 Popcorn Balls.

Hope you Enjoy!

Warm up with this Fun Treat

On a Cold winters day a Cup of Hot Chocolate is a great way to warm up and create Smiles! I just wanted to share a really easy appreciation I created for the teachers at my son’s school a few weeks ago!

This project took very little time to pull together, and for supplies all you need to gather is a 8×10 frame or purchase one from the Dollar Store, I then used SnowHaven paper for inside the frame. I used silhouette studio to create the phrase to be cut in white vinyl and then placed on the glass.

Then I created the table card labels with the Snowhaven paper by cutting, scoring and folding. To add the items name I used White Cardstock with the print then cut feature in Silhouette studio. I typed the items and then selected the frame for around the words then printed them with registration marks and cut them with the Cameo.

Then for the Hot Chocolate Bar I purchased red hots, caramel bits, peppermint sticks, marshmallows, snowman peeps, Hot Cocoa mix, White Chocolate Cappuccino Mix, Hot chocolate cups with lids, and I dipped spoons in chocolate.

With a few bowls and Big coffee Mugs it was Hot Cocoa Time! :)
